For the love of good tone

This blog is dedicated to the Best Guitar Amplifiers made today... Tone King Amplifiers. After thirty five years of playing amplified guitars through some of the worst and best combo amps ever made, I truly believe that the finest amplifiers made today are built in Baltimore Maryland by this small builder. I have no affiliation with Tone King amplification and I am quite simply their biggest fan. The main reason you might ask is the tone. Read any of the 100% positive Harmony Central reviews that convinced me to roll the dice and buy an amp I had only heard in an mp3 web file format. This action while a bit risky payed off in the biggest way. As a working musician I had the opportunity to use it on the gig immediately and my Meteor II 740-A smoked the gorgeous blonde Fender Vibro-King I flipped on eBay to get it. The voicing of this amp cuts through the band like no other amp I've ever played. I'm not going to confuse volume with tone so let me make one thing clear...while the Vibro-King was ear bleeding loud it still did not stand out in the tone department. Think of it this way. If this were the 1940's and you were one of several sax players in a big band and someone handed you a sax that would cut through the band like Harry Jame's trumpet I think you get the idea. Every Fender, Ampeg, Polytone, Silvertone or insert amp name here that I've played through over the years seemed to blend in with the band so much I always seemed to be turning myself up. There is a big difference between volume and tone that separates your sound from the rest of the band. The Tone King does this in such a way that it is as if your sound is not a part of the whole band sound but a distinctive layer above the mix. It's like a good audio engineer came in and dialed your sound in and placed your guitar in a clearly defined space in the audio landscape. My hope is that this blog gives Tone King players the opportunity to share their experiences with these great amps. Again I don't work for Tone King and have only had limited conversations with Mark Bartel with regards to my amp. I will say that every experience I have had with Tone King has been positive. Please let's keep our blog entries positive and send any complaint you might have to the source. I'm interested in hearing road stories, tube choices, comparrisons etc. For Tone King models and specs visit http://www.toneking.com Keep it real.
